Trainer Biography
April Austin Pugh is a California native. She attended San Marcos High School where she was a four year varsity starter in soccer and three year varsity starter in softball. She was captain for both teams and was named All Conference in both sports. She was named to the California Interscholastic Federation All Star Team. After graduating from San Marcos High school, she had offers to play softball in college at Division I schools, but chose to stay close to home and played softball for Palomar College.
During her time at Palomar College she hit .319, led the team to a second consecutive conference championship and served as team captain. She was an All-Pacific Coast Conference, all-state selection playing shortstop for Palomar and helped the team to a 42-9 record while achieving a second place finish in the state community college tournament. April was inducted into the 2015 Palomar College Athletic Hall of Fame.Based on her success with the Palomar College Comets, the San Marcos High School graduate earned a full athletic scholarship to Oklahoma State University for softball.
While at Oklahoma State University, this shortstop in her junior year, was a team leader in both triples and sacrifice hits/tied for the lead with doubles, earned First Team All-Big Eight honors and was named to the Women’s College World Series All Tournament Team as a shortstop. In 1993 the Oklahoma State team placed 3rd in the NCAA Women’s College World Series.In her senior year at Oklahoma State University, April was the team leader with hits and doubles, first team All-Big Eight and Women’s College World Series All Tournament Team as a shortstop (two consecutive years). In 1994 the Oklahoma State team placed 4th in the NCAA Women’s College World Series.
After graduating from OSU in 1994, with a BS in Political Science, April tried out for the 1996 Olympic team and had opportunities to play ball professionally, but felt the benefits for women playing professional sports, at that time, weren't financially sound. She decided, instead, to continue in her legal career.
After leaving the legal corporate world behind in 2006, April went back to her athletic roots and started Complete Package Personal Fitness, Inc. , DBA A Fitness. Today, her company is growing strong in preparing athletes and individuals to achieve their full potential physically, mentally and technically. This is accomplished by mentoring, instructing and managing athletes in a professional and positive manner. It is through years of experience, continuous learning new skill sets, positive reinforcement and encouragement that our students and clients excel in the classroom, sport and community.
